The Blaze shocked holders Surrey as they dismantled their opponents on their own patch in the first game at the Kia Oval on the Vitality Blast Finals Day.

The Blaze won the toss and skipper Kirstie Gordon would have been delighted with here decision as left arm seamer Grace Ballinger wripped through the Surrey top order picking up the key wickets of Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Kira Chathli. Surrey were scoring at a good rate throughout their innings but consistently would lose wickets with the Blaze’s varied spin attack proving too difficult for the home side to get away. Australain Charli Knott (4-15) and youngster Josie Groves were particularly effective. Groves was able to dismiss Alice Davidson Richards who tried to hold the innings togther for 20. Surrey just kept finding ways to be dismissed and were dismissed for 104.

In response the Blaze batted sensibly and despite losing a couple of wickets at the end of the innings they knocked off their target in the 17th over. Katherine Bryce and Tammie Beaumont showed there experience to guide their side to the final.

After the game Surrey coach Johann Myburgh bemoaned his sides inability to ‘build partnerships’ and any ability of his players to stick in and get there side over the line. While the Blaze will now sit back and see who they will face in the final, favourites Hampshire or Durham.
